Before you explain yourself

“Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the fuck you were gonna do anyway.” -Robert Downey Jr.

Before you explain yourself to anyone, ask the following question: “is it more important that I am understood or that I live my truth?”

Sometimes, we stick around and fight for other people’s agreement when we’d be much better off just speaking our truth (or silently embodying it) and moving on.

While there is certainly a time and place for explaining yourself, winning everyone over to your point of view is not a prerequisite for doing what’s best for you.

Do YOU agree with you? Are you acting in accordance with YOUR values?

If the answer is “no”, then you have bigger problems than the protests of others.

If the answer is “yes”, then don’t make yourself a slave to other people’s disapproval.

Live your truth and move on.
