Optimism is not, Optimism is…

Optimism is NOT…

the practice of lying to yourself in the name of “positive self-talk.”

Optimism IS…

the practice of telling yourself the truth in an empowering way.

Optimism is NOT...

the process of forcing yourself to feel good.

Optimism is…

the process of allowing yourself the freedom to feel however you feel without condemning yourself for where you are.

Optimism is NOT…

the art of looking down on people who are pessimistic.

Optimism IS…

the realization that you don’t need others to be wrong in order for you to be right.

Optimism is NOT…

a fancy word for avoiding reality.

Optimism IS…

choosing to recognize that your sense of intelligence, adaptability, creativity, and determination is as much a part of reality as anything that happens to you.

Optimism is NOT…

being perky or preachy.

Optimism IS…

giving yourself permission to be happy and healthy in your own unique way.

That’s today’s two cents.

Cheers,

  1. I love this post! I have thought that Optimism was a lot of what you have written that it is not and it never felt right. I love how you have expanded upon what Optimism is. I know I am Optimist now for sure!! thanks, T.K. Cheers 🙂

  2. An excellent post. Oh yes…you have to be tough-minded to be a genuine optimist!

“Giving yourself permission to be happy and healthy in your own unique way.”

Think of the mental legwork it takes to reach this state! Worth the struggle.
