Again, how many times must this story be told?

Last night,  Brazilian mixed martial artist and former UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, lost his title.

In the sporting world, that’s a pretty big deal.

Here’s why:

1) Prior to the fight, Silva was ranked as the #1 middleweight mixed martial artist and the best pound for pound fighter in the world by multiple publications.

2) As a fighter for the UFC, he was undefeated and held the record for the most consecutive title defenses at 10.

An Anderson Silva loss was not supposed to happen.

An Anderson Silva loss happened.

Once again, the world of competitive sports has provided us with yet another example of how a champions’ aura of invincibility can be penetrated and dispelled by someone who properly prepares, refuses to be intimidated by overwhelming odds, and fights to the finish.

I’m sure we’ll have another example like this before the year is even over.

My only question is, “how many times must this story be told before we start questioning the illusions of impossibility in our own lives?”

  1. For me? None. I’m over squandering my abilities on showering others with invincibility and superior talent/intelligence. It’s time to nurture my confidence and talent.
