Always There to Remind Me
Nothing depresses me more than the knowledge that I have little hope of finishing all the books I wish to read in this lifetime.
Nothing delights me more than the knowledge that I have little hope of finishing all the books I wish to read in this lifetime.
The limitless possibilities of learning scare me, satisfy me, sadden me, and soothe me all at once.
And I should have it no other way.
Every book is a mirror reflecting back to me the evidence of both my mortality and my magnificence.
It is good for me to remember both.
Oh yes, T.K.
What haunts me is the lost library of Alexandria.
Destroyed after 700 years. All the ancient thoughts
that were written down and preserved there.: Gone.
Philosophy, history, science, medicine, astronomy,
biographies, plays……brought to this ancient city by
emissaries from every corner of the civilized world then.
Knowledge
All but a mere 1 %. lost.
Enter the Dark and Middle Ages.
Wonder what it would take to restore our present collection
of books and knowledge if we lost it all now?
Let’s not.
That story of the burned libraries always breaks my heart. It makes me wonder how much further along we’d be. I can only imagine.
