The best way to become more creative

Here are the two states in which you may exist: person who writes, or person who does not. If you write: you are a writer. If you do not write: you are not. Aspiring is a meaningless null state that romanticizes Not Writing. It’s as ludicrous as saying, “I aspire to pick up that piece of paper that fell on the floor.” You learn to write by writing. -Chuck Wendig

Being a creator (or a ‘creative’ as some like to call it) is a lot like being a writer.

The best way to become more creative is by creating.

Creating is what you do when you take an idea or an impulse and you invest your energy into giving it tangible expression.

There is no such thing as an uncreative way to create.

Everyone has ideas. Everyone has obstacles. When you find a way to move your ideas above or around your obstacles, you have gained experience in the art of creating.

Creators are not creators because their methods of manifestation are characterized by some universally agreed upon concept of aesthetic excellence.

Creators are creators because they conceive of something that they want to exist and they find a way to bring it forth.

The only way to become more skillful and confident in that area is by actually attempting to alter the fabric of reality in a specific way.

You don’t need to dye your hair pink.

You don’t need to be given a permission slip by your “creative” friends.

You don’t even need to BE creative in any deep philosophical or mystical sense.

You only need to create.

At least that’s the way I see it.
