Love yourself enough to push yourself

The value of standards exists independently of our efforts to live up to them.

The fact that we sometimes fail to live up to our ideals does not negate the importance of having something to strive for.

To err is human, but to use human error as an excuse to not try at all is a cop out.

Being tough enough to challenge ourselves is just as important as being compassionate enough to forgive ourselves.

The practice of self-love encompasses a delicate balance between mercy and accountability. We all need to pat ourselves on the back, but we also need to know when to kick ourselves in the ass.

Sometimes you gotta love yourself enough to push yourself.

That’s the only way to get better.

At least that’s the way I see it.

Cheers,

    Well wherever the kicking takes place
    in one’s anatomy, we need to be tough
    enough to identify and pursue our ideals;
    but not blindly mule headed, so that we
    keep our humanity intact.
