The Both/And of Progress

If you don’t feel like you’re getting your ass kicked at least a little bit, then your goals might not be challenging enough. It may be time to demand things of yourself that extend beyond the range of your comfort zones. No matter how much you love what you do, a little discomfort can be a healthy indicator that you’re not settling for less than the development of your full potential.

On the other hand, if don’t feel like you’re kicking ass at least a little bit, then your goals might not be feasible enough. It may be a good time to restructure your priorities and simplify your plan of execution. No matter how much you’re pushing yourself, you should always have little successes that can be genuinely celebrated.

Personal growth is all about finding that fragile sweet spot between getting your ass kicked and kicking ass.

Making progress is like making music. It requires both tension and resolution.
